CISWO, the Charity Supporting Former Miners and Their Families, Partners with Ataloss

CISWO logo

We are delighted to announce a new partnership with CISWO, the coal mining charity, to provide bereavement support for former miners and their dependent families.

This initiative is part of a new, free service launching this month, aimed at helping individuals and families with all aspects of end-of-life planning. It includes a free will writing service provided by Octopus Legacy, along with expert guidance on managing finances, navigating legal processes for lasting power of attorney, and practical advice on funeral planning.

How We’re Supporting Ciswo

  • Training for CISWO’s welfare team – AtaLoss is equipping CISWO staff with the skills to facilitate conversations around end-of-life planning and bereavement.

  • Practical resources – A Managing Grief guide co-produced by CISWO and AtaLoss is included in a comprehensive support package.

  • Ongoing bereavement support – CISWO beneficiaries will receive continued bereavement guidance, including signposting through AtaLoss.org.

Why This Matters

Roger Greene, our Deputy CEO, shares:

"Talking about grief and loss can be difficult, but these conversations are crucial in helping families feel prepared and supported. We’re proud to work with CISWO to ensure former miners and their families have access to the bereavement support they need. By fostering openness and planning ahead, we can help individuals approach these discussions with confidence and peace of mind."
