A Great December for Chris Simmons - And Us!
Singer songwriter Chris Simmons, who released a Christmas single ‘A Cold December’ about his grief in aid of AtaLoss, has become the first ever unsigned artist to get a top 10 in the Christmas charts. Chris has achieved the amazing 8th position in the physical singles charts list for the festive period. Chris is a new Ambassador for bereavement charity AtaLoss, and offered the profits from the CDs and downloads of his single ‘A Cold December’ to the charity.
Chris uses emotion as songwriting fuel and has been applauded by Jackson Browne and Squeeze's Chris Difford, with whom he has written songs. He has played a litany of British festivals, including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight Festival, opened for Sir Tom Jones and Simply Red, and flown the English and Trans-Atlantic support flag for Kate Nash and Suzanne Vega. But Chris has had many hurdles to face in his career so far.In 2014, Chris featured on industry tip sheets with George Ezra, earmarked for success in 2015. Sadly, just after his first single was released, his brother died by suicide and not long after that his parents, then COVID derailed a headline UK EU tour. ‘A Cold December’, his comeback, is a song expressing his grief but full of hope over how remembrance can be a beautiful thing to share over the Christmas period.

“It’s a song based on real life with a positive message” says Chris, “It’s saying, 'It's a sad fact of life that things go wrong for us and those we love, but we have each other and we will always have cherished memories of those no longer with us.”
Chris’ Christmas single and more of his music can be heard on Spotify and on the Chris Simmons website. ‘A Cold December’ is available in two formats as CD singles with exclusive B sides, 'Passing Out' and 'The Reasons Surrounding', and can be bought at an individual and discounted quantity price for both CDs from The Republic of Music online shop.
The buzz around the song has come as a complete surprise to Chris, who has been up against industry giants such as Wham!, Reverend and The Makers and Ed Sheeran for the Christmas No. 1.
As an ambassador for AtaLoss, Chris is passionate about enabling the Charity’s signposting and bereavement support to be made available to a much wider community. All profits after costs of the CD and downloads will go to AtaLoss.
